transition to fall like a pro with these outfit staples
Posted on 08 September 2023
but don’t worry, because this year we are not allowing anyone to go into that weird transitional period unprepared. we are embracing the changing of seasons + planning our fall outfits ahead of time. more specifically, we’re stocking up on the best transition pieces to effortlessly take us from summer to fall. let’s break them down…
as we mentioned before, button-ups are both a standalone staple + a legendary layer (please take a moment to appreciate those alliterations). some of our fave fall outfit ideas consist of jeans + a basic top with an open, oversized button-up. that extra layer adds a little ~pumpkin spice~ to your ensemble, + you can take it off + put it on depending on the weather.
essential #2: lightweight knits - knits are an obvious fall staple, but mother nature’s end-of-summer mood swings can make it hard to pinpoint the official start of sweater weather. that’s why we recommend rocking light-weight knits throughout the summer/fall transition.
we suggest having an oversized, breezy sweater in rotation that’s ready for you to throw on over your summer outfits. something like our terri collared sweater is perfect because it’s neutral + layers well. so, if you start feeling chilly, you can put it on over your fit + it won’t ruin the vibe.
on the flip side, an outfit revolving around a light-weight sweater is a whole vibe within itself. pair a flowy cropped knit with a silk mini skirt + knee-high boots, + voila: the hottest summer/fall transition outfit. (seriously, wear this on your next date night + thank us later).
essential #3: ankle boots - here’s a scientific fact: you can autumn-ify almost any outfit with a simple pair of boots. this means those beloved summer dresses can stick around a little longer with some footwear finessing. so, summer dresses + ankle booties = a fall-ready fit.

the same rules apply, sans dress, so feel free to swap in your favorite fall boots anytime you can. for example, we’re suckers for a cropped tank + distressed denim combo, but when summer’s on its way out, we opt for chunky boots instead of sneakers. it just gives “fall” without giving “FALL,” you know?
and that’s a wrap on our transitional summer/fall staples. keep this info in mind, + you’ll be ready to slay the seasonal shift like a pro. for more fall outfit ideas (and all things iconic), follow us on instagram. xo, zoco.
